Know your 2s? Then the 4 times table is only one step away. Every answer in the 4 multiplication table is twice as big as in the 2 times table. 2 × 6 is 12, so 4 × 6 is 24.

- 4 × 1 = 4
- 4 × 2 = 8
- 4 × 3 = 12
- 4 × 4 = 16
- 4 × 5 = 20
- 4 × 6 = 24
- 4 × 7 = 28
- 4 × 8 = 32
- 4 × 9 = 36
- 4 × 10 = 40
- 4 × 11 = 44
- 4 × 12 = 48
Double, then double again
To work out 4 × 7, double 7 to get 14, then double 14 to get 28. Times 4 is always double-double, and every answer is an even number.
The tricky ones
The ones to watch are 4 × 7 = 28, 4 × 8 = 32 and 4 × 12 = 48.
