Pick at least one table first.
Add up the digits of any answer in the 3 times table and you always get 3, 6 or 9. Take 3 × 7 = 21: 2 + 1 = 3. And 3 × 8 = 24: 2 + 4 = 6. If the digits don't add up to 3, 6 or 9, check again.
The ones to watch are 3 × 7 = 21, 3 × 8 = 24 and 3 × 12 = 36.
