Pick at least one table first.
Hold up ten fingers. For 9 × 4, fold down the fourth finger. You have 3 fingers on the left and 6 on the right: the answer is 36. Another check: up to 9 × 10, the digits of every answer add up to 9 (3 + 6 = 9).
The ones to watch are 9 × 7 = 63, 9 × 8 = 72 and 9 × 12 = 108.
