Split 12 into 10 and 2. For 12 × 7, do 10 × 7 = 70 and 2 × 7 = 14, then add them up: 84. It works for every sum in the 12 times table.
The ones to watch are 12 × 7 = 84, 12 × 8 = 96 and 12 × 12 = 144.
